About the Host City

Kindersley is a vibrant and exciting town located in the heart of West Central Saskatchewan.

Settlement of the Kindersley area began in 1905 when the first homesteader arrived from Saskatoon by oxcart. But it was not until 1909, with the construction of the CN railway, that the Town began to grow rapidly.

Named in honor of Sir Robert Kindersley, a major shareholder in the Canadian National Railway, the town now boasts a population of over 4,500 and is a major business and recreation center for the area. Kindersley is home to many oil companies that have helped make oil a major industry in West Central Saskatchewan.

There is always something to do in Kindersley for the visitor or vacationer. The town has a wide range of recreational facilities all located within a short distance of the town center.

At the very center of these facilities is the West Central Events Center (WCEC). Constructed in 1993, the WCEC housed a 6 sheet curling rink and a skating rink, with the Exhibition stadium rink adjacent to it. The WCEC is home to the Kindersley Junior Klippers, a team in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. The Center is also host to many concerts and shows throughout the year.
