2012 Men's National ChampionshipsAug 23-27   Prince George, British Columbia

About the Host City

Prince George is located in the heart of British Columbia, where two great rivers flow together: the Fraser and the Nechako. Our city connects major highways 16 and 97, and is also serviced by air, train and bus. Visitors to Prince George will find themselves surrounded by beautiful wilderness in all directions, with access to a selection of urban amenities that rival larger centres. With over 1600 lakes, rivers and streams located within an hour’s drive and countless recreational opportunities for hiking, fishing, camping and entertainment, we are a passionate community that embraces active living and competitive spirit.

In the past, Prince George has successfully hosted a number of sporting events, including the 2009 and 2011 World Baseball Challenges (WBC) at Citizen Field, which is where the 2012 RE/MAX Centre City Baseball Canada Senior Championship will be held this August. The WBC tournaments drew 18,000 and 22,537 spectators respectively, with teams from the USA, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Bahamas, Germany, Japan, Cuba and China all competing.

Our visitors from neighbouring and overseas countries were delighted with the volunteer-run events. Ting Yi Lin, the interpreter for Chinese Taipei, praised our local organizers and residents by saying, “The people here are so friendly and we would like to come back again. Everybody got good training here and they did a good job at this ballpark.” This same level of outstanding service and high quality of facilities provided will be matched again when we welcome everyone to the Senior Championship.

Outside of the main event, we hope you explore the multitude of activities that Prince George has to offer in the summer. Amazingly, within city limits, more than 120 parks of all shapes and sizes call Prince George home. Playgrounds, a water spray park, picnic facilities, beautiful hilltop flower gardens, and bird-watching spots can all be found minutes from the downtown area, with more challenging trails just outside the edge of our city.

More green space can be found on one of our eight golf courses, with tee times running late as the sun stays up longer in the north! Beginners will love our par three courses while avid golfers will find a challenge at some of our others, including the forested hills of Aberdeen Glen Golf Club.

Families and history buffs will find fun heritage and cultural sites both in Prince George and in our outlying communities; the Golden Raven group of attractions includes a railway and forestry museum, a science and history museum, art galleries, national historic sites and shops. If the kids need to burn off more energy, race to the go-kart track or visit the animals at Noah’s Ark Adventureland.

At night, dine out at one of our casual, fine dining, café or pub options before heading out to a local play or drive-in movie. We have one of the last three drive-in style theatres in the province, with showings every weekend throughout the summer!

When you’re ready to rest up for the next day of fun, check in at one of our welcoming accommodations. Whether you want to relax in a hotel suite, get the local experience at a bed and breakfast or just hook up the RV for a few nights, we’ve got a place for you to stay.
