About the Host City

Vaughan, north of Toronto, in Canada's central province of Ontario, is a city made up of five distinct communities, Concord, Woodbridge, Kleinburg, Maple and Thornhill, each with its own unique flavour and appeal. The area was home to the Huron almost one thousand years ago and throughout the 20th century has evolved from a rural, agrarian township, incorporated in January 1850, into an ethno-culturally diverse, progressive city.

  • Today, the communities offer a wide variety of experiences:
  • the historic village of Kleinburg, home of the Binder Twine Festival, McMichael Canadian Art Gallery, and a wide array of specialty shopping
  • the rich Italian culture and festivals of Woodbridge
  • Paramount Canada's Wonderland, the major theme park in Maple
  • historic Thornhill and industrial Concord, home of many national companies
