WELCOME TO ST. JOHN’S

The St. John’s Amateur Baseball Association (SJABA), the host St. John’s Winmar Capitals and its many supporters are proud to present the 2014 Canadian Senior Men’s National Baseball Championship.

TEAMS:  (Players, Coaches, & Team Officials)

Teams should arrive in St. John’s by 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014. 

All teams and officials will fly into St. John’s International Airport. Teams should check-in at the host hotel upon arrival and get accredited.

Players, Coaches and Managers are asked to attend a welcoming social and homerun derby starting at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 20 at St. Pat’s Ball Park.

The menu for the social will include something for everyone to  enjoy, including some Newfoundland cuisine. If anyone has any special dietary requests they should be forwarded to the host committee two weeks prior to the event.  Beverages will be available for purchase. 

This will be followed by a Home Run Derby in aid of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. (“Hit a Home Run for Heart & Stroke”)  The Home run Derby will consist of one representative from each team and each team is to provide the pitcher for their batter.

ACCOMMODATIONS:   (Players, Coaches, & Team Officials)

Accommodations for teams and officials have been arranged at the Holiday Inn, 180 Portugal Cove Road, St. John’s, NL  (located 10 minutes from the Airport, 5 minutes from St. Pat’s Ball Park ). 

In total (8) eight double rooms per team will be provided from August 20th – 26th (departing on the 26th).

NOTE:  Should teams arrive earlier or choose to stay longer, it will be at their own expense.

MEALS

East Side Mario’s restaurant is located onsite at the host hotel.    The restaurant is open daily from 7:00 AM until 12:00 midnight.  The restaurant provides room service to the hotel.  

The bar in the restaurant has half price appetizers available from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM - Close daily with a beverage purchase. The restaurant menu is available on www.eastsidemarios.com.

East Side Mario’s will provide a 10% discount on all meals consumed by  teams, when they dine as a team in the restaurant.   This excludes alcoholic beverages and room service.  

There are also a variety of fast food outlets within a short distance of the hotel. (Dairy Queen & Tim Horton’s. )

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation will be provided  for teams that will include pick-up and drop-off at the airport and to and from competition during the championship. 

A shuttle service for players/teams will also be provided at various times during the event.

VENUES

All games will be played at two fields during the tournament. Both diamonds are lit fields with grass infields and other amenities.

§  Dressing room facilities for the teams will be available at St. Pat’s Ball Park only

Practice time on Tuesday August 19th and Wednesday August 20th will be available at Wishingwell Park if any teams are in interested in scheduling a practice. (Wishingwell does not have lights or a grass infield.

MEETINGS

The pre-Championship meeting is scheduled for 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 20, in Salon B at the Holiday Inn.  Each team is permitted to send two representatives along with their Chef de Mission.

UMPIRES

Umpires should arrive in St. John’s by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20.   Umpires are asked to check-in at hotel upon arrival and get accredited.

UMPIRE ACCOMMODATIONS:

Have been arranged at the Hillview Terrace.  There will be two umpires per room.  Accommodations are available from August 20- until August 26th (leaving on 26th). 

Individual umpires must arrange to cover costs for early arrivals and/or late departures.

There is no restaurant in the hotel but there is a Tim Horton’s directly across the street and other fast food venues within a short distance of the hotel.

GUESTS

A special rate of $149.95 plus applicable taxes for single, double, triple or quad occupancy has been established at the host hotel.

§  Children 12 and under accompanied by an adult are free

§  Passes are good for both venues (St. Pat’s Ball Park and Smallwood)

§  No refund or exchange once the event starts
