Baseball Canada Atlantic Peewee Championships 2011

Dartmouth Nova Scotia September 8th-11th

Facility: The Carl Morash Memorial Complex located in the City’s South end. Two fields both with lights and both set-up for Peewee baseball, Complex includes a club house, canteen and washrooms and is centrally located adjacent to the Dartmouth General Hospital and the District Fire Station close to restaurants and 5km’s from the designated tournament hotel.

Arrival: Teams are expected to be at the field complex at noon for a welcome BBQ. Team pictures will be taken at that time (dress accordingly). Coaches meeting will be held in the club house at 1pm.

Tournament Hotel: Holiday Inn Harbourview at a rate of $99.00 with two hot breakfast buffet or $109.00 with four breakfasts. The hotel has set aside a separate room for our participants for breakfast. All guests receive complimentary passes to the Dartmouth Sportsplex which has a pool, gym and running track and is just across the street from the hotel. Transportation: Teams travelling to our region by airplane will be met at the airport and transported to the hotel and back and forth to their games. This service will be provided for players and coaches. If and only if there is room the parents will then be welcomed.

Opening Ceremonies: Thursday 6:30pm all teams are expected to take part and be dressed either in team uniforms or with team apparel. We are expecting an exciting and unique show that these young players should soon not forget. At this time we are also honouring nine pioneers of baseball in Dartmouth.

Ball Park Fest: Friday at 8pm at a location to be determined. The hall will be in full baseball decorum and the menu will be what you find at the ball park. Designed for the players this event will include a special guest speaker and be highlighted by presentation of the tournament awards.

Tournament Awards: These awards will include a tournament all star team, top hitter, top infielder, top outfielder and top pitcher as well as Tournament MVP. Every game we will honor the top offensive and top defensive player on each team. A committee of knowledgeable baseball people will make the selections.

Skill Competition: Will be held Saturday morning and include three skills. A homerun derby (coaches pitch to their own players), throwing into a series of targets and running the bases. Each team will enter a representative in each skill. There will be first and second place trophies for each event. This event is being sponsored and organized by the Dartmouth Dry reigning silver medalists in the National seniors and they will have just returned from representing Nova Scotia at the 2011 Nationals.

Optional Tour: After play on Saturday we have organized a tour of a Canadian military ship. Open to players and coaches and depending on numbers possibly parents. Details at coaches meeting.

Baseball Expo and Carnival: During the tournament there will be a series of boots selling 1) Baseball Canada apparel 2) baseball equipment 3) other related items. As well there will be information stations about local baseball registration details. On Saturday we will have booths set up for younger fans to try their skills by throwing at targets, hitting off a tee and other activities we come up with. There will also be a couple of bouncy castle type activities for our young fans.
