OTTAWA- The winter version of the Canada Games gets underway in Halifax on February 11th where more than 2700 athletes will compete in over 20 sports with the final day of competition scheduled for February 27th.
This year, over 700 hours of coverage will be available on-line through a partnership with Bell Aliant, making the games the most accessible in history.
“Bell Aliant is proud to be a part of bringing the Canada Games to Halifax – and especially by helping friends and family throughout the world experience the excitement and achievement of our young athletes as if they were here,” said Dan McKeen, senior vice president of customer solutions, Bell Aliant in a press release from the Canada Games Council. “More athletes and events will be showcased online at this year’s Games than ever before with our live streaming coverage, on-the-spot interviews and reporting.”
The games will also be broadcast to a national audience with coverage coming from TSN, TSN2 and RDS.
The Atlantic region is no stranger to hosting the Canada Games, as the 2009 Summer Games were held in Charlottetown, PEI. That year, Coach Joel Landry (Pointe-aus-Trembles, QC) led his Québec club to an 8-1 victory over Alberta in the Gold Medal baseball game.
Baseball will once again be featured at the Canada Games when the next summer event is held in Sherbrooke, QC in 2013. This will be the first time that a Canada Summer Games will head to the province of Québec.
