ORLANDO, Florida- The Junior National Team opened their Fall Instructional League Camp with a 5-2 loss to the Houston Astros. Some fine pitching performance kept the game close until the Astros pulled away with two runs in the eighth inning to take a three run lead.
OTTAWA-Baseball Canada’s Women’s National Team will hold an Identification/Tryout Camp on November 5th 2010 at the Richmond Olympic Oval in Richmond, British Columbia.
San Juan, Puerto Rico- Jamie Romak (London, ON) has been named tournament MVP at the Pan Am Games/World Cup qualifier in Puerto Rico. Romak had an outstanding tournament at the plate leading all batters in homeruns (5) and RBI’s (14). Romak was also listed second amongst the tournament leaders in batting average (.448) and first in slugging percentage (1.103). In addition to the MVP award, Romak was also selected to the tournament all-star team as an outfielder.
San Juan, Puerto Rico- When Canada was faced with a must-win game; they delivered with a victory by beating Puerto Rico 14-6 on a humid evening at Hiram Bithorn Stadium. The win wrapped up fifth place for Canada and most important secures a berth for Canada at next year’s Pan Am Games in Guadalajara, Mexico and the World Cup at a site that is yet to be determined.
San Juan, Puerto Rico- Mike Trout led off the game with a solo homerun for Team USA and that’s all the offence they would need as they shutout Canada 4-0. The loss puts Canada’s record at two wins and four losses (they carried over their record against teams also advancing to round two) and eliminates any hope of advancing to the semi-finals. Canada now faces Puerto Rico in their final game where a win would ensure qualifying for the 2011 Pan Am Games and 2011 World Cup.
San Juan, Puerto Rico- Canada hit three homeruns and held off Panama in the end to record a 9-5 victory in round two action at the Pan Am Games/World Cup qualification tournament. The win improves Canada’s record to 2-3 (Canada carried over their record against teams also advancing to round two) and takes another step toward qualifying for the 2011 Pan Am Games and 2011 World Cup. Canada built a nine run lead and had a chance to end the game early via the mercy rule, but Panama fought back with five unanswered runs to make the game interesting.
San Juan, Puerto Rico- The Dominican Republic had nine hits, including six extra-base hits as they went on to beat Canada 5-2 in the first game of round two at the Pan Am Games/World Cup qualification tournament. The loss now puts Canada’s record at one win and three losses as they carried over their record against teams also advancing to round two. The game time was bumped up by two hours (12pm from 2pm) and switched to Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan after it was determined that Paquito Montaner Stadium in Ponce was unplayable from too much water on the field and in the dugouts.
San Juan, Puerto Rico- The schedule of games for the second round of the Pan Am Games/World Cup qualification tournament has been announced. Canada will open the second round on Friday October 8th against the Dominican Republic at 2pm ET in Ponce.
Ponce , Puerto Rico- Cuba received a two-out bases loaded double in the sixth inning that cleared the bases and they went on to defeat Canada 4-2. The loss evens Canada’s record at two wins and two losses with one first round game yet to play at the Pan Am qualification tournament.
