Women's National Team Improves to 2-0 at WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup with Win Over Korea

ROCKFORD, Illinois – Canada's Women's National Team remained unbeaten at the WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup Group Stage, defeating Korea 15-2 on Thursday afternoon at Rivets Stadium.

A dominant eight-run second inning and another productive day at the plate powered Canada to its second consecutive victory, improving the team to 2-0 in tournament play.

Lucie Anctil (La Pocatière, QC) led the offensive attack, going 4-for-4 with seven RBI. The catcher delivered the biggest hit of the game with a bases-clearing double during Canada's explosive second inning before stroking a double to centre in the third inning to plate two.

Claire Eccles (Surrey, BC) continued her hot start to the tournament, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Madison Willan (Edmonton, AB) and Alizée Gélinas (Trois-Rivières, QC) each collected two hits and two RBI.

After Korea opened the scoring with single runs in each of the first two innings, Canada responded in emphatic fashion in the bottom of the second. Sending 13 batters to the plate, the Women's National Team erupted for eight runs, highlighted by Anctil's three-run double, to seize control of the game.

Canada continued to add on throughout the afternoon, pulling away to secure the run-rule victory.

Allison Schroder (Fruitvale, BC earned the win on the mound after allowing runs in each of the first two innings before settling in to toss a scoreless third. She finished her outing with four strikeouts.

Jaida Lee (St. John's, NL) took over in relief and was outstanding, throwing two scoreless innings while allowing just two walks and striking out four to close out the victory.

Canada has now scored 28 runs through its first two games of the tournament while improving to 2-0 in Group Rockford.

The Women's National Team returns to action Friday when it takes on Mexico in a pivotal Group Stage matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET at Rivets Stadium.
