Welcome to Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo! Fort McMurray is a vibrant city of 75,000 people that lies at the heart of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in Northeastern Alberta. With gratitude, we acknowledge that this land is Treaty 8 Territory, the traditional lands of the Cree, Dene, and the unceded territory of the Métis people.
Our region is home to six First Nations communities, five Métis local councils, one Métis community association, and people from across Canada and over 60 countries around the world. Fort McMurray is one of ten communities located within our region, which is world-renowned as the epicentre of Canada’s energy industry.
Fort McMurray is located in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB). The RMWB is a collection of several communities, of which Fort McMurray is the urban centre. Fort McMurray offers a wide range of services, including hotels, restaurants, retail stores and more. Fort McMurray also hosts tourist attractions, including the Oil Sands Discovery Centre where you can learn about the history of the oil sands in the region. Visitors can also check out Fort McMurray’s Heritage Shipyard and Heritage Park.

The two venues for the 2022 18U National Championship are:
MacDonald Island Park/Shell Place
Legacy Dodge Field at Shell Place is located at MacDonald Island Park, Canada’s largest recreation centre which features a full service facility including the Miskanaw Golf Club and Suncor Community Leisure Centre. Located in the Suncor Community Leisure Centre are several amenities, including the Syncrude Aquatic Centre, Legacy Dodge Fitness Centre, indoor running track, CNOOC Field House 1 & 2, Pepsi Climbing Wall, squash and racquetball courts, and more. Each player, coach and Chef de Mission will also have complimentary day pass access to MacDonald Island Park on behalf of the 2022 Host Committee by showing your event accreditation to Guest Services to obtain your daily wristband. Legacy Dodge Field is also built to MLB standards featuring in ground covered dugouts, artificial turf, and locker rooms for the athletes and officials.
MacDonald Island Park is also home to the Miskanaw Golf Club. From August 17th up to and including August 22nd, the following discounts are provided for participants, coaches, team managers, umpires, and Baseball Canada representatives. They include:

Ross Hennigar Ball Park is home to the Fort McMurray Minor Baseball Association and is located in Thickwood, a residential neighbourhood in Fort McMurray. With $2.5 million worth of upgrades, Ross Hennigar will be the secondary field for the 18U Championships. This field boasts infield artificial turf and grass outfield, scoreboard, press box area, and new fencing.
