About the Host City

This vast region is named for the Rivière Saguenay and the immense Lac Saint-Jean, which it links to the St. Lawrence. The river winds its way through a majestic fjord whose breathtaking rocky walls hold a special fascination.

Rich heritage

The Montagnais people of Lac-Saint-Jean will introduce you to their history and culture at the Musée amérindien de Mashteuiatsh. In Saguenay, the historical spectacle entitled Fabuleuse histoire d’un Royaume (fabulous story of a kingdom) highlights the region’s colourful past in truly dazzling style. A peaceful haven awaits those in search of relaxation at the Ermitage Saint-Antoine in Lac-Bouchette.

And be sure to visit the Bagotville airport, the only operating Canadian Forces base open to the public. You can take in the noisy ballet of CF-18s or visit the Bagotville Air Defence Museum.

·         Croisières du Fjord lets the majestic fjord and capes unfold before your eyes. The cruises include a stop at Sainte-Rose-du-Nord, one of the most beautiful villages in Québec.

·         The Véloroute des Bleuets, with over 250 km (155 mi.) of delectable vistas over Lac Saint-Jean.

·         The bike path crosses the Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon, home to moose and beavers and a prime spot for swimming, kayaking and canoeing.

·         The Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay, which showcases the spectacular shores of the Saguenay Fjord.

·         The Saguenay?St. Lawrence Marine Park is a vast conservation area to protect belugas and several other species of whales.

·         The Zoo sauvage de Saint-Félicien, where the animals roam free and the visitors are in cages.

 

·         The Village historique de Val-Jalbert, a ghost town, which prospered for a quarter century around a pulp and paper mill built at the base of a waterfall.
