Welcoming ten teams from across the nation, including the Fort McMurray Minor Baseball Association Oil Giants host team, the 2022 Baseball Canada 18U National Championship presented by Pepsi builds on the proud legacy of the 2016 Baseball Canada Cup and the 2018 Baseball Canada 18U held in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo. The tournament was delivered through a partnership between the Fort McMurray Minor Baseball Association (FMMBA) and the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC).

“On behalf of our organizing committee, I want to thank the Government of Alberta and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo for their support of this event. I also want to thank all our community partners, without whom this event would not be possible,” said Mike Mayuk, 2022 Baseball Canada 18U National Championship presented by Pepsi Organizing Committee Co-Chair and FMMBA Treasurer. “This event is a showcase of athletic excellence, strong team work and a passion for the sport, and we have been so proud to serve as the tournament host in 2022.”

The final day of tournament action saw the Mississauga Tigers (representing Ontario) and Team New Brunswick battling it out for the gold medal finish. Team Ontario proudly heads home with the gold medal, while Team New Brunswick has been awarded the silver medal. Team British Columbia takes home the bronze medal.

The 2022 Baseball Canada 18U National Championship presented by Pepsi took place at Legacy Dodge Field at Shell Place and Ross Hennigar Ball Park and welcomed hundreds of local baseball fans, as well as visiting players, coaches, officials and families.

“What an honour it has been to host another Baseball Canada event in our community,” said Jodie Cooper, 2022 Baseball Canada 18U National Championship presented by Pepsi Organizing Committee Co-Chair and RRC Director of Sport and Recreation. “We want to thank Baseball Canada for once again selecting our region to host this event, and we want to genuinely express both our congratulations and our thanks to all the event participants, volunteers, baseball fans, and community supporters."

“Baseball Canada was very excited to return to Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo for the 18U National Championship and a tremendous week of baseball,” said Baseball Canada CEO Jason Dickson. “We know that the host committee has put a tremendous amount of work in to put on a quality event for the players, coaches, officials, volunteers and fans so I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate them on a job well done!”
