Baseball Canada and the Portuguese Federation of Baseball & Softball announce partnership

OTTAWA – Baseball Canada and the Portuguese Federation of Baseball & Softball announce today a partnership that will enable the Portuguese baseball coaches to access Baseball Canada's extensive online training program starting on November 1st 2009. Portugal becomes the first country to adopt the Canadian coaching online module.

“We are very excited about this opportunity to contribute to the success of the Portuguese baseball coaches. This country has shown openness and passion about the game of baseball and I believe this is an important step for them,” mentioned André Lachance, Manager of Baseball Operations with Baseball Canada.

“This shows Canada's commitment in contributing to the development of baseball at the international level” added Ray Carter, President of Baseball Canada.

“This partnership is an exciting step forward for the FPBS and baseball in Portugal,” said Sandra Monteiro, President of the Portuguese Federation of Baseball and Softball. “I personally believe that with this new access to high quality coaching material and continuing with developments in other areas, the following years will be exciting ones. We are happy that Canada reached out to us and we hope to collaborate on other projects in the near future.”

Federally incorporated in 1964 as the Canadian Federation of Amateur Baseball, Baseball Canada is the national governing body for baseball in Canada and is made up of 10 provincial associations representing players, coaches and umpires nationwide. Baseball Canada is a member of both the Canadian Olympic Association and the International Baseball Federation. It is funded and recognized by Sport Canada and Heritage Canada, and is recognized by Revenue Canada as having charitable status.
