Baseball Canada Announces Junior Roster for Dominican Camp

OTTAWA – Baseball Canada has announced the Junior National Team roster it will field for the annual Dominican Summer League Camp which will take place from May 20th – 29th in the Dominican Republic.

32 players have been selected for this 10 day camp, including Jake Eliopoulos (Newmarket, ON) who is the highest ranked Canadian high school prospect for the upcoming MLB First Year Player Draft, as well as Evan Grills (Whitby, ON) who was a member of the JNT for the 2008 World Junior Baseball Championship in Edmonton last year.

The JNT is scheduled to play ten games against Major League affiliated teams, notably those of the New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland Indians, Colorado Rockies, Anaheim Angels, Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins and a double-header against the Seattle Mariners.

13 players on the roster hail from British Columbia, while 12 are from Ontario. Both Québec and Alberta have three players on the roster with Manitoba taking up the final spot.

The Dominican Summer League Camp is part of a continual evaluation process for the 2010 World Junior Baseball Championship in Thunder Bay, Ontario next summer.
