BIGS Seeds Baseball Canada Cup: Round Robin Complete Enroute to Championships

REGINA - Saturday’s action got off to a slow start due to a rain delay at Optimist and Currie Field. The adjusted schedule can be found here.

At the end of the day, Québec (4-2) solidified themselves at the top of Group A. Ontario (3-3) and BC (3-3) failed to catch up. Nova Scotia (4-1) was finally defeated at the hands of PEI but remained atop Group B to finish. Manitoba (4-1) finished in a close second place. All the championship games will happen Sunday, starting with Quarterfinals at 9 AM and finishing with the Gold Medal game at 7:30 PM. Please note that these times are local.

On Saturday, British Columbia took a big 8-1 win over Ontario in a crucial Group A game. BC’s Sean Heppner went all seven innings, striking out ten. Matthew Suarez helped lead the way for BC’s offense with three RBI on three hits.

Bats were on fire when New Brunswick beat Newfoundland 10-5. Each lineup saw seven different players put hits on the board. With 10 total hits, New Brunswick had only one less hit than Newfoundland. It was ultimately Newfoundland who cashed in more runners and took the game.

British Columbia lost 9-2 to Québec after playing their second game of the afternoon. A close game in the early innings, Québec went on an eight-run rally in the fifth and cruised to the win. Québec shortstop Emilien Pitre had another impressive game at the plate with three hits, including a triple.

Manitoba and Alberta went back and forth with Manitoba securing a 9-5 win. Alberta came back from a 4-0 deficit only to give up 5 runs in the top of the seventh and fall to Manitoba.

Saskatchewan walked off Ontario 5-4 in a close game which went down to the wire. Alex Ellert’s single in the bottom of the seventh cashed in the winning run.
