LONDON, ON – British Columbia won the gold medal at the 2024 Baseball Canada Cup in Fort McMurray, Alberta, defeating Québec 13-0 by mercy rule.
Daniel Dykema, who went 1-for-3 at the dish, led the way for the champions by driving in three runs. He also drew two walks and scored once.
Matthew Vrlak, Lukas Le Gras, and Eli Pakosz all had a hit and tallied two RBIs in the victory. Meanwhile, Braeden Scott (1), Kadyn Armitage (1), and Kason Siguenza (1) drove in the remaining runs.
In four innings of work, Desmond Tregaskis struck out three, walked one, and allowed four hits en route to earning the win. Linden Happell, who replaced Tregaskis in the fifth, pitched a hitless frame and registered a strikeout before the game got called due to mercy rule.
Manitoba takes home the bronze
Earlier in the day, Manitoba secured the bronze medal in walk-off fashion to beat Saskatchewan 7-6.
Nate Lodewyks stood out for Manitoba by going 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring twice, and driving in a run.
