Canada Cup - Rain wreaks havoc on Day 3

OTTAWA - Only three games were completed on a rain-soaked day at the Canada Cup.  Suspended games between Newfoundland and Labrador/Nova Scotia and New Brunswick/Manitoba will resume this morning at 8am.  Yesterday’s postponed games between Ontario/Quebec and Alberta/BC will begin at 4pm.

Ontario 3  Alberta 1

Ontario remained undefeated after beating Alberta 3-1.  Wet conditions didn’t seem to phase Ontario starting pitcher Brent Cleland (Toronto, ON), who pitched into the seventh inning striking out seven.  Alberta starting pitcher Roberto Valdez (Chestermere, AB) also had a strong outing, pitching into the seventh inning as well.

Quebec 3  BC 1

Patrick Lalonde (Notre-Dame de l’Ile Perrot, QC) went the distance to give Quebec their first victory of the tournament.  His offense gave him some early support, scoring all three runs in the first two innings.  Mathieu Girard (Varennes, QC) hit a two-run home run.

Saskatchewan 8  PEI 4

Saskatchewan came out swinging early scoring three runs in the first inning en route to an 8-4 victory over PEI.  Jacob Hersikorn (Saskatoon, SK) led the way offensively with four hits and two RBI while Jordan Schultz (Strasbourg, SK) had three RBI.  Dylan McKenna (Cornwall, PE) had two hits for PEI.
