Five Baseball Canada Championships get underway!

OTTAWA – It’ll be a busy week for Canadian baseball fans as a total of five National Championships are scheduled for this week following the conclusion of the Baseball Canada Cup in Saskatoon, SK. British Columbia won gold at the event on Monday by defeating Saskatchewan 10-1.

5 more National Championship titles are on the line as competition kicks off. Saguenay, QC is hosting the 16U Girls Invitational for the 2nd straight year as well as the Senior Women invitational. The 18U Championship will be held in Québec for the 4th straight year with game being played in Sherbrooke, Magog and Coaticook. Regina, SK will host the 21U Championship while Coquitlam-Moody, BC hosts the 13U National Western Championship.

13U National Western Championship

Eight teams will be competing in Coquitlam-Moody, BC over the next 4-5 days for a shot at gold. Pembina Hills of Manitoba won gold last year in a 9-4 victory over Cloverdale, BC. St. James and Oildome will both be representing Manitoba this year as they look to make it 2 years in a row on top.

16U Girls Invitational

Ontario and Québec have faced off in the finals 4 times in the last 4 years with 2 gold medals each to show for it. Québec was last year’s winner defeating Ontario 13-3 on home soil and will look to do it again this year. Eight teams are in the mix for a medal in Saguenay, QC.

18U Championship

All 10 provinces are being represented at the 18U Championship along with the host team les Ailes du Québec. Québec took 2 of 3 medals last year as Québec 1 defeated Alberta for Gold and Québec 2 topped BC in the bronze medal game. The hometown heroes are looking to give fans something to cheer for again this year.

21U Championship

Québec, BC and Ontario finished 1, 2 and 3 respectively in Dartmouth, NS last year. Host Regina will look to bring 21U gold home to Saskatchewan for the first time in the event’s history. Saskatchewan’s highest placement was 2nd when they lost gold to Québec in 1990. Ten teams will face off in Regina, SK this year.

Senior Women Invitational

13 of the 18 Pan-Am Games silver medalists who represented Canada less than a month ago will be competing against each other in Saguenay, QC. Among them are Stéphanie Savoie, Vanessa Riopel and Jessica Bérubé who will be representing the host team Québec. Alberta won gold last year but won’t be in Saguenay to defend their medal. 2 Ontario teams, 2 Québec teams and British Columbia are fighting for a medal this year.
