DUNEDIN, FL--- Dasan Brown (Oakville, ON) drilled a home run in the sixth inning, TJ Schofield-Sam (Brampton, ON) drove in two runs in the third inning to highlight the Junior National Team’s annual trip to Dunedin to face Canada’s only big league baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays.
The juniors fell, 8-3, but the score didn’t matter as a group of Canadian high school players had the thrill of a lifetime facing big leaguers Billy McKinney, Richard Ureña, Danny Jansen, Rowdy Tellez and Danny Barnes, while Canadians Demi Orimoloye (Orleans, ON), Brayden Bouchey (Vancouver, BC), Tanner Kirwer (Sherwood Park, AB) and Will McAffer (North Vancouver, BC) also suited up for the Jays.
“It was an amazing day, something I’ll never forget,” said Brown. “It’s always exciting to hit a home run but to do it today, in this atmosphere is really amazing.”
Theo Millas (Burnaby, BC) started on the mound for Canada and gave up three runs over three innings of work on four hits and walk.
“I was really nervous before the game but once I settled down (in the first) I was able to pit my game,” he said. “It was a lot of fun being out there today.”
The juniors matched the Blue Jays with seven hits on the afternoon including three off the bat of Brown, a double from Schofield-Sam while Noel McGarry-Doyle (Maple, ON), Ryan Leitch (Whitby, ON) and Eric Martin (Kitchener, ON) had singles.
