Juniors ready for exhibition schedule

 

Gold Coast, Australia- The Junior National Team is settled into their new surroundings on Australia’s Gold Coast and after a day of practice and an inter-squad game will begin a ten-game exhibition schedule in preparation for the IBAF 18U World Cup in Taichung, Taiwan August 30th-September 8th.

The juniors will open exhibition play Sunday (12:30pm AEST/10:30pm ET  on 08/17) against the Australian 18U squad at Australia’s MLB Academy in Palm Meadows.

The schedule includes six games against Australia and four games with Riseisha College of Medicine and Sport from Japan.

Friday’s inter-squad game was played to a 4-4 tie in a contest that lasted seven innings.

Some highlights of the game included:

-Luke Manuel (Surrey, BC) tossing five innings without giving up an earned run. He also struck out four.

-Josh Naylor (Mississauga, ON) went 2-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI

-Tyler O’Neill (Maple Ridge, BC) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI

-Blake Weston (Oakville, ON) and Mitch Bigras (Sarnia, ON) each tossed two scoreless frames and Sean Ratcliffe (Ajax, ON) tossed a perfect inning with two strikeouts.
