OTTAWA – Host Dartmouth, along with Summerside (PEI) and Capital District (PEI) all picked-up two wins on Day 1 of the Baseball Canada 13U National Atlantic Championships as eight teams began play.
Jacob Burgess struck out seven batters and drove in two runs to lead Dartmouth to an 8-3 win over Port City while Cole Monk had a double and three RBI as Dartmouth ended their day with a convincing 11-1 win over St. John’s.
PEI went 4-0 on the day with Summerside and Capital District each winning both of their contests.
Jack MacKinnon picked up the winning RBI to lead Capital District to a 6-5, walk-off win over Yarmouth (Nova Scotia) before he drove in two runs and belted a triple in a 12-2 victory over Conception Bay South.
Tyson Wedge had seven strikeouts to lead Summerside to a 12-2 win over St. John’s and later, he went -3-for-3 with two RBI in a 13-7 defeat of Port City (New Brunswick).
Ben Hamilton knocked in five runs to lead Fredericton to a 16-1 win over Conception Bay South (Newfoundland & Labrador) in a game where Zach Rushton went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI.
Drew Jeffrey went six strong innings on the mound to lead Yarmouth to a 6-2 win over Fredericton as both squads finished the day with a win and a loss.
