Halifax (3-0) and Capital District (3-0) both earned top spot in their respective pools and remain unbeaten as round robin play wrapped up today at the Dairy Queen Canada 13U National Atlantic Championships in Summerside, PEI.
Tomorrow’s semi-final match-ups will feature Halifax taking on Fredericton (2-1) while Capital District will face Kennebecasis Valley (2-1).
Here’s a look at today’s games.
Capital District (PE1) 9, Fredericton (NB1) 0
Jack MacKinnon fired 6.1 innings of scoreless baseball and struck out seven to lead his Capital District side to a 9-0 win over Fredericton. Brett Arsenault contributed a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a double and one RBI while Luke Coughlin drove in three runs.
Truro (NS2) 11, Mount Pearl (NL2) 0
Carter Higgins and Alex Field had two hits apiece and each drove in two runs as Truro pounded-out ten hits en route to an 11-0 win over Mount Pearl. Carter Sharpe did it all on the mound striking out six batters and allowing just two hits over five innings of work to record the win.
Halifax (NS1) 16, St. John’s (NL1) 6
Halifax used 15 hits including three off the bat of Austin Verge to earn a convincing 16-6 win over St. John’s and keep their unbeaten streak intact. Verge drove in three while Brady Bishop smacked a double and had three RBI.
Kennebecasis Valley (NB2) 9, Summerside (Host) 8
Matthew Bauer’s two-run single in the bottom of the sixth proved to the be the difference as Kennebecasis Valley scored three times in the inning to eventually come away with a 9-8 win over host Summerside and book a spot in tomorrow’s semi final. Bennett Gallant had four RBI in the loss for Summerside.
