SUMMERSIDE, PE – Québec turned an opening-day setback into a national championship run.
Québec defeated British Columbia 12–6 in Sunday evening’s gold-medal game at Legends Field to capture the 2026 Baseball Canada Cup, completing a six-game winning streak after dropping their first game of the tournament.
Québec’s road to gold began with a narrow 3–2 loss to Ontario on Wednesday morning, but the team responded later that day in a high-scoring battle against British Columbia. Québec outlasted B.C. 13–8 in extra innings to earn its first victory and never looked back.
Victories over Manitoba and Saskatchewan followed to close round robin play before Québec edged Alberta 2–1 in Quarter-Final action on Saturday. The offence then came alive on Championship Sunday, defeating New Brunswick 12–2 in the semifinal to secure a rematch with British Columbia for gold.
The championship game brought together two teams that had already combined for 21 runs in their first meeting, and the rematch again featured plenty of offence. Québec put 12 runs on the board to defeat B.C. 12–6 and finish the championship with a 6–1 overall record.
British Columbia Earns Silver After Strong Run
British Columbia reached the championship game after putting together a strong stretch of its own.
Following the extra-inning loss to Québec on opening day, B.C. responded with three consecutive victories to close preliminary play, defeating Saskatchewan 7–2, Ontario 14–4 and Manitoba 12–6.
The momentum carried into the weekend. British Columbia shut out Saskatchewan 2–0 on Saturday before earning a 3–1 semifinal victory over Alberta on Sunday morning to advance to the gold-medal game.
The silver medal capped a 5–2 tournament for British Columbia, with both losses coming against eventual champion Québec.
Five-Run Seventh Sends Alberta to Bronze
Alberta saved its most dramatic rally of the tournament for its final inning.
New Brunswick appeared poised to claim bronze after building an early advantage and carrying a 6–2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. New Brunswick scored twice in each of the first two innings and added single runs in the fourth and sixth, while Alberta had managed only a run in the first and another in the fifth.
With the bronze medal on the line, Alberta’s offence came alive.
Alberta erased the four-run deficit with a five-run rally in the bottom of the seventh, completing a 7–6 walk-off victory and securing a place on the podium.
It was the second closely contested meeting between Alberta and New Brunswick during the championship. Alberta also earned an 8–6 victory when the teams met during preliminary play.
Alberta entered the playoff portion of the tournament after a perfect preliminary round, earning victories over Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. After falling 2–1 to Québec on Saturday, Alberta rebounded with a 7–2 quarterfinal victory over Manitoba before dropping a 3–1 semifinal to British Columbia.
The comeback against New Brunswick allowed Alberta to finish the tournament on a winning note and claim bronze.
New Brunswick finished fourth following a strong playoff run. After going 2–2 during preliminary play, New Brunswick defeated Saskatchewan 10–2 in the quarterfinal before falling to Québec in the semifinal.
Placement Matchups
Saskatchewan secured fifth place with a 5–1 victory over Manitoba in Sunday’s placement round. Saskatchewan had opened the championship with extra-inning victories over Manitoba and Ontario before eventually finishing ahead of Manitoba in their second meeting of the week.
Ontario closed its tournament with a 10–0 victory over host Prince Edward Island to finish seventh. Ontario’s tournament also included a 3–2 victory over eventual champion Québec in the opening game and a 26–1 win over Newfoundland and Labrador on Saturday. Prince Edward Island finished eighth.
Nova Scotia earned ninth place with an 11–0 victory over Newfoundland and Labrador. The win gave Nova Scotia its second victory over Newfoundland and Labrador after a 13–3 result during preliminary play, while Newfoundland and Labrador completed the championship in tenth.
