The Baseball Canada Event Recognition Award is handed out annually to a community, group or organization that has hosted a baseball event that has benefitted the baseball community or delivered a baseball experience in a unique fashion to the greater community. Events considered can include but are not limited to a tournament, coach/officials’ clinic or convention, player development experience, convention bringing baseball communities together, a fundraiser.
Considering the impact that Covid-19 had on baseball events in 2020, the Canadian baseball community was anxious to provide tournament baseball once again in 2021. With the pandemic still impacting the way in which tournaments are delivered it took extraordinary efforts from baseball volunteers to host events in their communities.
The Région Mauricie was one such group that took on this challenge in 2021 and their team took on the monumental task of delivering a first-class “Provincial A Championships” for over 75 teams last summer.
For their efforts, Baseball Canada is honoured to present its Event of the Year Award to Région Mauricie for 2021!
For a three-day period in September, the communities of Villes de Louiseville, Trois-Rivières-Ouest, Pointe-du-Lac, Cap-de-la-Madeleine and Saint-Étienne-des-Grès welcomed five divisions (9U, 11U, 13U, 15/16U and 18/21U) of teams and athletes to compete for a provincial championship.
An event like this simply cannot function without the work of volunteers with over 120 dedicated volunteers taking part including 30 Baseball Québec certified scorekeepers and 40 umpires.
Revenues generated from the championship through sponsorship and on-site food services for fans and participants are being reinvested into the baseball programs in Région Mauricie. A “win-win” for all involved!
On the field, fans were treated to some tremendous baseball leaving all of those involved with memories for years to come!
