U-18 Baseball World Cup: Need to know

WHAT

Twelve nations are in Gijang, South Korea for the playing of the 29th World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Baseball World Cup including world ranked No. 10 Canada along with No. 1 Japan, No. 2 USA, No. 3 South Korea, No. 4 Chinese Taipei, No. 7 Australia, No. 8 Netherlands, No. 13 Panama, No. 15 Nicaragua, No. 20 China, No. 23 South Africa and No. 26 Spain

Groups A and B will play a round-robin in the Opening Round (August 30-September 3) with the top three seeds in each group advancing to the Super Round to be played from September 5-8. The top two seeds following the Super Round will battle For The Title of World Champion on Sunday, September 8th.

WHERE

All games at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup will be played at Gijang-Hyundai Dream Ballparks I, II and III.

FACTS

Canada has won six medals at the U-18 World Cup including gold in 1991 (Brandon, MB), silver in 2012 (Seoul, Korea) and bronze in 1983 (USA), 1987 (Windsor, ON), 1997 (Moncton, NB) and 2006 (Sancti Spiritus, Cuba). Canada is coming off a fourth place finish at the last WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup that was held in Thunder Bay, Ontario in 2017.

Head Coach Greg Hamilton is guiding Canada at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup for the 11th time in his career.

The United States have won the last four WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cups.
