OTTAWA- Canada will open play at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U18 Baseball World Cup against China on August 30th as the international federation today announced the schedule for the event that will take place in Gijang, South Korea from August 30-September 8.
Canada will compete in Group A and continue opening round competition on August 31st against the Netherlands before taking on host South Korea (Sept. 1), Australia (Sept. 2) and Nicaragua (Sept. 3).
Group B features defending champion USA along with Chinese Taipei, Japan, Panama, South Africa and Spain.
The top three teams from Group A will play the top three teams from Group B in the Super Round from September 5-7, with the top two teams meeting For the title of World Champion on September 8.
Prior to the tournament, Canada will hold a selection camp in Lismore, Australia from August 21-26 that will include a six-game series against the Australian U18 National Team. The series will help determine Canada’s 20-player roster that will compete in the U18 Baseball World Cup in South Korea.
