Women's National Team drops 4th game of Québec City Midget Tournament

QUÉBEC CITY – Canada was limited to one base hit in their 5-0 loss to Team Nova Scotia during the third day of competition at the Québec City Midget Tournament.

Nova Scotia’s starting pitcher Steven Conway had a strong performance throwing 6 innings of one-hit baseball. Conway walked 3 batters and struck out 2 in the outing.

Amanda Asay (Prince George, BC) started the game for the Women’s National Team. 3 runs crossed the plate for Nova Scotia in her only inning of work. Asay added 1 strikeout and 2 walks to the scoresheet during her time on the mound, allowing 1 hit.

Vanessa Riopel (Repentigny, QC) started the 2nd for Canada facing 15 batters over 3 innings of work. Riopel allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks with a strikeout in the 3rd. Heidi Northcott (Rocky Mountain House, AB) entered the game as a reliever and threw 2 hitless innings. Northcott had a strikeout and gave up a walk during her performance.

Canada’s only hit came off the bat of Kelsey Lalor (Red Deer, AB) in the top of the 3rd to put an end to Conway’s no-hitter.

Nathan McCarthy went 2 for 3 for Nova Scotia. His 2-RBI triple in the bottom of the 2nd extended Nova Scotia’s lead to 5 and helped secure the win.

Jack Gallant took the mound in the top of the 7th to close the game for Nova Scotia. Gallant shutout Canada in the three up, three down inning.
