Women’s National Team set to play Puerto Rico for spot in WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Group Stage

OTTAWA – The Women’s National Team will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico for a decisive five-game series from April 29 – May 3 to determine the final team from the Americas to qualify for the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup.

Venezuela, Mexico, and Cuba secured qualification through the 2025 Pan American Championship held in La Guaira, Venezuela. Canada will now face Puerto Rico in a best-of-five series, with the first team to earn three victories claiming the remaining berth from the region.

Currently ranked No. 3 in the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Rankings, Canada enters the series following a bronze medal performance at the 2024 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

“This is an exciting challenge for our group,” said Women’s National Team Manager Anthony Pluta. “Puerto Rico is a talented and competitive team, especially on home soil. Our athletes understand what’s at stake, and we’re confident in the experience and character within our roster. Our goal is to earn our place back at the World Cup.”

Details, including game times and Canada’s 20-player roster and coaching staff, will be announced later.
