- Teams must be in Saskatoon by 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005
- Saskatoon is the largest urban center in Saskatchewan. Saskatoon is extremely self-sufficient for its size (population: 230,000). Within the city limits, residents find all the amenities common to urban centers, all within a 20-min. drive from one end of the city to the other. Air Canada/Canadian Regional, West Jet, Northwest, Royal, and TransWest Airlines fly into John G. Diefenbaker international airport, located just 10 minutes from the downtown core. It is suggested travel arrangements be made well in advance of the tournament to ensure suitable arrival and departure times.
- The 22 members (18 players, three coaches and a Chef de Mission) of each visiting team will be staying at the Howard Johnson Inn, located at 611 Idylwyld Drive North, Saskatoon. The Howard Johnson Inn is located approximately 1.1 km from Cairns Field. Team members will be required to provide a credit card imprint at check-in for any telephone calls, incidentals, movies or other hotel costs.
- Persons staying at the Howard Johnson Inn will need to provide their own towels, face cloths, toiletries, etc.
- Team accommodations are available from Wednesday, Aug. 24 to Monday, Aug. 29 (departure is Tuesday, Aug. 30). The host committee is responsible for the room cost.
- Team accommodations are available on Tuesday, Aug. 23 for those teams who will be arriving early. The accommodations for Tuesday, Aug. 23 are the responsibility of the team. Arrangements for early arrivals are to be made through the host committee.
- Transportation will be provided for all team members. Transportation will be provided to and from the airport and the hotel and to and from the ball facility for games and other championship events. Teams that will be arriving in their own buses are asked to use their bus for championship transportation throughout the event.
- Other than the tournament awards banquet on the evening of Sunday, Aug. 28, visiting teams are responsible for their own meals during the tournament. The Howard Johnson will provide special team menus prior to arrival if they so wish.
- The opening barbecue will be on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at Cairns Field at 5:30 p.m. This will be at no cost to team members.
- All baseball games will be played at Cairns, Leakos and Girgulis Fields in Saskatoon.
- Cairns Field features artificial lighting, electronic scoreboard, irrigated and groomed grass infield, excellent drainage, an 8 foot outfield fence with wind screening and dimensions of 335 feet down each line and 400 feet in center field. The supporting facilities at the field include stands seating in excess of 5,000 fans, a clubhouse with four dressing rooms, concession, washrooms, showers, media press box with a public address system, an umpires’ room, warm-up mounds and a permanent batting cage. Cairns Field will be available for scheduled practices prior to the start of competition.
Leakos Field has dimensions of 325 feet down the left field, 400 feet to center, and 356 feet down the right field line. Infield is irrigated with groomed shale. Covered dugouts, media/press box, seating capacity 1,000 permanent with 2,000 portable seating. Team amenities are shared with the adjacent Cairns Field
Girgulis Field: Dimensions: 325-400-325
- The diamond is irrigated with groomed shale. Seating capacity is 100 permanent seats, with up to 1,000 portable seats.
Meetings:
- The pre-championship meeting will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at a time and place to be determined. We will advise you in this regard once this information becomes available.
Umpires:
- Umpires must arrive by 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 24.
- Accommodations for the umpires are at the Radisson Hotel, which is located in downtown Saskatoon. Rooms are based on double occupancy. Umpires who bring their spouse will be required to pay 50% of the room cost.
- Umpire accommodations are available from Wednesday, Aug. 24 to Monday, Aug. 29 (departure is Tuesday, Aug. 30). The host committee is responsible for the room cost. Umpires will be required to provide a credit card imprint at check in for any telephone calls, incidentals, movies or other hotel costs.
- Umpire accommodations are available on Tuesday, Aug. 23 for those umpires who may be arriving early. The accommodations for Tuesday, Aug. 23 are the responsibility of the umpire. Arrangements for early arrivals are to be made through the host committee.
- The host committee will provide transportation for the umpires to and from the airport and to and from the ball facilities.
- The host committee will provide umpires a $25 meal per diem. The opening barbecue and awards banquet will be at no cost to the umpires.
- An umpire’s change room is available at Cairns Field.
- The pre-championship umpires meeting will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at a time and place to be determined. We will advise you in this regard once this information becomes available.
