Junior National Team Shines in 13-3 Triumph Over Guatemala

August 02, 2024

CANADA 13-3 GUATEMALA   Panama City, Panama. – In an impressive display, the Canadian Junior National Team overpowered Guatemala in a 13-3 victory, clinching the win in just five innings due to the mercy rule. The victory puts the Canadians in the driver seat of Group A with a 1-0 record.   Top Performers: The Canadian offense was relentless from the start, scoring in every inning and capitalizing on key opportunities. Eric Hartman (St. Albert, AB) got things rolling at the top of the lineup scoring three runs in a perfect 3-for-3 day at the dish. Leo Cote (Ayer’s Cliff, QC) provided solid production in the middle of the Canadian order, scoring three and driving in four runs over his 2-for-3 performance.   Dante Smith (Ajax, ON)  was a spark at the bottom on the lineup for the Canadians, scoring a pair of runs and picking up two hits over his three at bats. Mason Ault (Hamilton, ON) delivered the final blow of the game when he drove in his second run of the game with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. The Canadian catcher finished his day with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate.   Pitching Highlights: Canadian starter Adyn Schell (Toronto, ON) ran into trouble after one and two third innings as he allows three runs on four hits and three walks, while punching out three. A call to the bullpen brought Jacob Wallace (Pincourt, QC) into the game. The right-hander showcased excellent command and poise on the mound, escaping a bases loaded jam uncuffed to start his outing. Wallace navigated through Guatemala’s lineup, permitting only a hit while striking out six. Simon Baker (Cochrane, AB) punched-out the side to hold Guatemala scoreless in the bottom of the fifth to close out the inning.   Looking Ahead: With the win, Canada sets a strong tone for the U18 Pan American Championship, demonstrating both offensive prowess and pitching depth. The Juniors are set to take on Nicaragua at 7:30 PM ET on August 3rd at the Estadio Juan D. Arosemena   Stay tuned with all the action of the U18 Pan American Championship by following @BaseballCANJNT on X and Baseball Canada on Instagram and Facebook.
