Votto named NL Player of the Week

OTTAWA - Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto has been named the National League Player of the Week for the period ending September 27.

The 26-year-old finished with a Major League-best 14 hits, including 10 doubles, and 11 runs scored in six games last week. He became the first player to hit 10 doubles over a five-game span in a single season since Hall of Famer Paul Waner did it for Pittsburgh in 1932. Votto also knocked in eight runs and had a NL-leading 1.080 slugging percentage to go along with a .593 on-base percentage.

For the season, the Toronto native is hitting .318 with 23 home runs and 80 RBI.
