Mount Pearl is located on the Avalon Peninsula in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The City is adjacent to the Provincial capital of St. John’s. Mount Pearl is minutes from the Atlantic Ocean located in the beautiful Waterford Valley region. The Waterford Valley sits in the Waterford River which runs directly into the Atlantic Ocean at the St. John’s Harbour. The river boasts aquatic life and is protected in a park-like setting throughout its location in Mount Pearl.
Despite the natural setting of the Waterford Valley, Mount Pearl is a very urban environment possessing all the services and amenities of the modern world. The City contains a thriving business sector and is the prime location for many new developments in the region.
Mount Pearl’s location can sometimes be confusing as it is often thought of as a continuation of St. John's, when, in fact, it is an entirely different City. Mount Pearl is located a mere 12 minutes from the St. John’s harbour and only 15 minutes from the St. John’s International Airport.
Mount Pearl has a fairly favorable climate by Newfoundland standards. Throughout the year, Mount Pearl receives an average of 1,500 hours of sunshine. The summer months of June, July, and August are the sunniest with an average of 199 hours per month. Generally it is two or three degrees warmer in Mount Pearl than it is in St. John’s. The average precipitation per year is approximately 1239 mm of rain and 329 cm of snow. This means that there are, on average, 145 days of rain and 55 days of snow each year.
