The saying “it’s not over until it’s over” came true today for a Saskatchewan team that squeaked by Newfoundland and Labrador 5-4.  Leading 5-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Saskatchewan gave up four runs before pitcher Chase Nistor (Regina, SK) stranded two runners – including the potential game-winning run – to earn his team the victory.  Keven Cashin (St. John’s, NL) had a two-run single for his team, whose no-quit attitude almost won them the game.

Colby Cormier’s (Chatham, NB) two-run double in the top of the fifth inning was all New Brunswick needed as they cruised by PEI 4-0.  Pitcher Justin Moran (Chatham, NB) was brilliant for his squad, allowing only three hits and walking none for the complete game shut out.

Manitoba 11  Nova Scotia 5

After falling behind 3-0 early, Manitoba stormed back to earn a convincing 11-5 win.  Aaron Couvier (Winnipeg, MB) had two hits and two RBI for Manitoba while outfielder Luke Horanski (Cooks Creek, MB) drew three walks.  Chris Thibideau (Dartmouth, NS) led the way for Nova Scotia with three hits, two RBI and two stolen bases.

Alberta 6  Quebec 4

Alberta picked up their first victory of the Baseball Canada Cup by defeating Quebec 6-4.  Trailing 2-0 early, Alberta’s bats, led by a two hit and three RBI performance from Doug Clapperton (Calgary, AB), finally woke up to help earn the win.  Pitcher Nolan Rattai (Medicine Hat, AB) was solid in relief, allowing only one run in three innings.  Jeff Certosini (Montreal, QC) had a solo home run for Quebec.

Newfoundland and Labrador 4  New Brunswick 2

After experience a heart-breaking loss earlier in the day, Newfoundland and Labrador got some revenge by edging New Brunswick 4-2.  A three-run top of the fourth was the difference maker in the game, as Newfoundland and Labrador capitalized on their chances when they needed to.  Jordan Boland (St. John’s, NL) pitched an effective five and two-third innings to earn the win.

PEI 8  Manitoba 1

Pitching reigned supreme once again for PEI as they came out and defeated Manitoba 8-1.  Dylan McKenna (Cornwall, PE) led the way offensively led the way offensively with two hits, including a home run, while starter Spencer Horne (Cornwall, PE) struck out seven over seven complete innings.

Ontario 8  BC 3

After a cautious start to the game by both teams, BC got on the board first by scoring two runs in the fourth inning.  However, Ontario quickly erased that deficit and grabbed five runs of their own in the top of the fifth and never looked back.  Jake Lumley (Windsor, ON) led the Ontario attack with two runs and three RBI while Brandon Feldman (Victoria, BC) had three RBI for his BC squad.

Nova Scotia 5  Saskatchewan 2

Trailing for much of the game, Nova Scotia rallied for five runs in the final two innings to defeat Saskatchewan by a score of 5-2.  Nova Scotia first baseman Jordan Crawley (East Preston, NS) led his team with two RBI, while starting pitcher Jeremy Sylvester (Regina, SK) had nine strikeouts in five and one-third innings pitched.
