Participant Information

ALL PARTICIPANTS OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP
(Players, Coaches, Team Officials, Baseball Canada Representative, Umpires)

GENERAL
Accreditation of everyone involved in the Championship will be required. This year, identification badges will only have the participants’ name and their association. Identification photos will not be required.   As soon as teams have their line-up confirmed, please forward your list to the Director Host Services (DHS).

Travel arrangements for Championship participants flying into the Halifax must be provided to the DHS by August 9th so scheduling of ground transportation can be booked. This includes arrival and departure dates and times as well as flight numbers.   Participants will be picked up at the airport, transported to and from accommodations, all games/events, and returned to the airport. The Baseball Canada Representative will have his own vehicle.

Games will be played at Beazley Field (Championship Field), Caledonia Road in Dartmouth and Mainland Common, Lacewood Drive in Halifax. Complete schedule is available on the Championship and Baseball Canada websites. Round robin games begin on Thursday morning, August 26. Each field will have a canteen and concessions, a beer tent, washrooms, and a first aid station.

TEAMS
All players, coaches, and team officials are required to be in Dartmouth/Halifax by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25, and at Beazley Field by 6:00 p.m. The Home Run Derby is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. in conjunction with a complimentary Opening Social for all participants.   Teams are to wear the same tops (jerseys, warm-up jackets, etc.) so the team look is coordinated.

Home Run Derby participants are to be in full uniform (well, almost full uniform) and are reminded to provide their own pitchers. This year, the Derby is teaming up with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Run for the Cure.   In the Derby itself, the 10 participants (one from each team) will wear pink t-shirts and be given the opportunity to drive balls over the fence at Beazley Field. Each will have a round of 10 pitches, the top 5 advance to the second with 5 pitches delivered, with the top two leaders meeting head to head after the round-robin with 10 outs available. When the 9th, 4th, and 9th out is reached for each batter in the three rounds, a pink baseball will be delivered and if that ball is knocked over the fence, a fan will win a prize.  Prizes are compliments of Tim Horton's, Cleve's Source for Sport, and Grandview Golf and Country Club.  Fans also have the chance to win prizes by dressing in anything pink. Patrons will be asked to make a cash donation to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Run for the Cure in lieu of paying an admission at the gate.

Opening Ceremonies will be held at 7:30 pm on Thursday at Beazley Field. All teams are required to attend, wear coordinated tops (jerseys, warm-up jackets, sweatshirts, etc.), and be at the Dartmouth field by 6:45 p.m. and assembled on the Soccer Field to the right of the ball field. A Piper will begin leading the teams to the ball field by province in alphabetical order except the Host Team which is last.
Accommodations for players, coaches, and team officials have been arranged at the Park Place Hotel & Conference Centre – Ramada Plaza (hereafter called Ramada) in Dartmouth for August 25-30 inclusive. Teams that require any nights outside these dates will be at the expense ($95.00 plus taxes per night) of the respective teams and arrangements must be made directly with the Ramada.

Teams are asked to e-mail the rooming lists for players, coaches and team officials to the DHS by August 16.   If the lists are not provided, rooms will be assigned at random.   Remember, each team gets 8 rooms.

All meals with the exception of the Opening Social are the responsibility of each team. If teams want to take advantage of the meal plan offered by the Ramada, arrangements must be made directly with the hotel.   Meal plans and associated costs were provided to the teams on July 12.

Team picture and information are required for the Championship Program. Team pictures are to be a 3 x 7, B&W photo preferred.   Also required is a list of players’ information (Player #, Player Name, Position, Hometown, Age, Height, Weight). The pictures and information are to be sent via e-mail to Marc Patterson (hubba00@bellaliant.net) by August 12.

BASEBALL CANADA REPRESENTATIVE AND UMPIRES
Baseball Canada Representative and Umpires must arrive in the Dartmouth/Halifax area by August 25. Umpire arrival time to be determined by the Umpire Supervisor. The Baseball Canada Representative will be met at the airport and provided with a car. Ground transportation has been arranged for the umpires.

Accommodations have been arranged at the Ramada in Dartmouth and are paid for by the Host Committee from August 25 to 30 inclusive. Baseball Canada Representative and Umpire arrivals and departures outside these dates must arrange their own accommodation and cover their own costs. A meal per diem to cover the meal costs during the Championship will be provided.

Baseball Canada Representative and Umpires are invited to attend all events associated with the Championship. This includes the Home Run Derby/Opening Social and Opening/Closing Ceremonies.
