LET’S PLAY BALL.....

Greetingsfrom Vaughan, Ontario –home of the 2009 Canadian National Bantam Baseball Championships presented by The Toronto Blue Jays! This is only the second time in the history of the event for any Baseball Canada National Championship to be held in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and we hope everyone will enjoy the whole experience we are planning and a fantastic tournament.

Please take the appropriate time to review the outline details regarding our championship so that your experience in Vaughan will be an enjoyable one.

TEAMS: (Players, Coaches and Team Officials)

Teams must arrive in Vaughan by Noon (12:00 p.m.) on Wednesday, August 19th, 2009.

There will be a “Welcome Lunch” at 1:00 p.m. at the Hotel for all participants and officials.

Players and Coaches are asked to be ready to attend a very special event by 3:00 pm (timing is critical) on August 19th. Shuttle buses will transport teams from the Host Hotel to the Welcome Event. Details for all players, coaches and managers will be distributed to each team upon their arrival with their team information packages – but we guarantee that everyone is in for a real treat – bring along your baseball gloves and cameras…..

ACCOMODATIONS

For players, coaches and team officials are as follows:

All players, coaches and managers will be housed in the Best Western Parkway Hotel. Players will be housed 3 per room. Lists for room assignments will be forwarded by July to each provincial agency. 

All teams are required to stay at the Hotel from Wednesday August 19th departing Tuesday August 25th. Those teams who arrive by private bus or who have made other arrangements to depart the hotel once the tournament is over (if the Championship is over on Sunday night) must advise one of the Co-Chairs no later than 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 23rd.

All arranged accommodations are for 6 nights from Wednesday August 19th to Monday August 24th with team departures on the morning of Tuesday August 26th. Teams that choose to arrive prior to August 19th or stay after August 25th are responsible for the extra costs incurred. If you require accommodation prior to or after the specified dates please contact the one of the Co-Chairs (Frank Crudo – frank@crudocanada.com or Dirk Drieberg - double.d@rogers.com).

We encourage all teams and officials to fly into Pearson International Airport to enable us to provide you with transportation from Pearson International Airport to the Hotel. Buses will transport all teams and coaching staff from the airport to their accommodation at the Hotel.

In addition to the Welcome Lunch on Wednesday, August 19th, players, coaches and managers will also be provided breakfast each morning at the Hotel. 

All other meals are the responsibility of each player, coach and manager. Please note there is a restaurant  at the Hotel and there are numerous restaurants within a 5 minute walk of the hotel

All games will be played at Vaughan Grove Sports Park (Martingrove & Highway 7). Practice field will be available at various local diamonds – teams will be assigned practice fields as we get closer to the event and will be posted on the tournament website at a later date. 

MEETINGS

The Pre-Championship Meeting (MANDATORY) time is 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19th.

Each team is permitted to send two (2) reps per team and their provincial representative.

UMPIRES

Umpires should arrive in Vaughan by Noon (12:00 p.m.) on August 19th, 2009.

Umpires are asked to be at the Welcome Event on Wednesday August 19th, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. Shuttle buses will take the umpires from their accommodation to the event and from the event back to the hotel.

Accommodations for Umpires has also been arranged at Sheraton Parkway Hotel. There will be two umpires per room. Accommodations are available and paid by the host committees from August 19th to August 24th (6 nights). If departing prior to the 24th, please advise one of the Co-Chairs.

Umpires will receive a Meal Per Diem from the Host Committee upon arrival at the championship. Umpires will each receive a complementary ticket to the Welcome Event. Dress is casual.

Transportation has been arranged to and from the airport and during the championship for all umpires and teams. 

GUESTS

For guests accompanying the teams, the Best Western and Sheraton Parkway Hotel (1 complex joined together) are the official hotels for the tournament. Blocks of rooms for the tournament have been reserved (please quote 2009 Bantam Championship) when making your reservations:

The Best Western cost is $100.00/night for single or double occupancy and the Sheraton Parkway is $120.00/night for single or double and $130 for a Jacuzzi Suite

For those guests wishing to enjoy a vacation in Toronto either before or after the Championship, both hotels will honour these rates during these periods.

The Welcome Event is Wednesday August 19th and will be hosted by the Toronto Blue Jays.

GUEST TRANSPORTATION

Plans will be made to ensure teams are picked up from Pearson International Airport.

Information regarding the tournament transportation sponsor will be posted at a later date.

In order to make the tournament a success we ask that you support our sponsors by booking your hotel rooms at the Best Western or Sheraton Parkway Hotel, vehicle rentals through the tournament sponsors, purchase of 50/50 tickets, and supporting the silent auction and souvenirs at the Park.
