2006 Bantam Girls Canadian Championship

Welcome to Grande Prairie, Alberta!

The City of Grande Prairie, 455 kilometers northwest of Edmonton, is the metropolitan service center for one of Canada's most promising regions. The “Peace Region” contains an abundance of both renewable and non-renewable resources ranging from agriculture, and forestry, to oil and natural gas. Grande Prairie's population is 44,631 people. The County of Grande Prairie and the smaller towns of Sexsmith, Wembley, Hythe, and Beaverlodge, contribute an additional 20,000+ people.  As a service center to Northwest Alberta, the city serves a market area in excess of 250,000 people within a 200-kilometre radius.

1.                  Teams must arrive in Grande Prairie on Wednesday August 16, 2006.

2.                  Grande Prairie has a regional airport serviced by the following air carriers:

3.         The teams will be housed together at the expense of the organizing committee. All athletes and coaches will be staying at the Grande Prairie Inn. This hotel is located 8 kilometers from the main fields. The Grande Prairie Inn is a full service hotel, featuring a pool, sauna and Jacuzzi. The hotel has a cafe, lounge, dining room and nightclub. On site facilities include a gift shop, tanning salon and hair salon. The Grande Prairie Inn is located beside the Prairie Mall - featuring 90 stores & services, including restaurants and a movie theater.

4.                  Accommodations will be from Wednesday night, August 16, 2006 through to Monday night, August 21,2006.

5.                  If teams wish to arrive a day early, the organizing committee must to be notified as soon as possible.  Accommodation expenses outside of the noted dates are the responsibility of the teams.

6.                  Meals are the responsibility of the teams. A meal plan has been arranged at a cost of $25.00 per day, per athlete. The details of this meal plan will be forwarded ASAP.

7.                  Teams will be transported from the airport to the hotel by bus.  

8.                  The host committee will provide transportation to and from the games.  There is a director of transportation and he will provide all pertinent information with respect to departures and arrivals. Those teams travelling by bus are asked to use their own transportation to and from their games.

9.                  There will be a “Championship Banquet” on Wednesday August 16th - Quality Hotel & Conference Center.  The banquet will be complementary for athletes and coaches. There will be a limited number of banquet tickets available for parents and supporters to purchase.

10.             All games will be played at Kin Fields, Evergreen Park.  Provisions for rainouts and make up games have been made.

MEETINGS

11.             The Pre-Championship meeting will be held at the Grande Prairie Inn on Wednesday, August 16, 2006. The exact time of the meeting will be determined based on arrival times of teams and umpires.

UMPIRES

12.             Umpires must arrive in Grande Prairie on Wednesday, August 16, 2006.

13.             Accommodations for umpires are available from Wednesday, August 16th through Monday August 21,2006 - at the Grande Prairie Inn.  If umpires require accommodation outside of these dates, please contact the organizing committee as soon as possible.  The expense of the additional accommodation will be the responsibility of the umpires.

14.             Transportation to and from the airport and the fields is the responsibility of the Host Committee.  The Host Committee has arranged separate transportation for the umpires.

15.             The Umpires will be provided $25.00 each per day for meals.  The “Championship Banquet” will be free of charge for the umpires.

16.             There will be a changing room provided for the umpires at Kin Fields.

PARENTS, FANS AND SUPPORTERS

18.             Parents, fans and supporters wishing to stay in Grande Prairie during the Championship are encouraged to reserve hotel rooms as soon as possible.  Grande Prairie is an extremely busy city – and securing hotel rooms can prove to be impossible when left to the last minute.
