We are very excited to welcome Baseball Canada back to Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo this summer! We are thrilled to be your hosts for this year’s 2026 Baseball Canada 18U National Championships@

 

ABOUT FORT MCMURRAY                                                                                                          

Fort McMurray is located in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB). The RMWB is a collection of several communities, of which Fort McMurray is the urban centre. Fort McMurray offers a wide range of services, including hotels, restaurants, retail stores and more. The majority of the retail and restaurant opportunities are located in the downtown core where you will find:

ABOUT THE VENUE

The two fields for the 2026 Baseball Canada 18U National’s are:

  • Legacy Dodge Field at SMS Equipment Place, MacDonald Island Park
  • Ross Hennigar Ball Park, located in the Thickwood neighbourhood, Fort McMurray

Legacy Dodge Field at SMS Equipment Place is located at MacDonald Island Park, Canada’s largest recreation centre which features a full service facility including the Miskanaw Golf Club and Suncor Community Leisure Centre. Located in the Suncor Community Leisure Centre are several amenities, including the Syncrude Aquatic Centre, Fitness Centre, indoor running track, CNOOC Field House 1 & 2, Pepsi Climbing Wall, squash and racquetball courts, and more. Each player, coach, chef de mission, and umpire will also have complimentary day pass access to MacDonald Island Park on behalf of the 2025 Host Committee by showing your event accreditation to Guest Services to obtain your daily wristband.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12TH ITINERARY SUMMARY - TENTATIVE

4:30pm                 TEAM Photography (main entrance of Legacy Dodge Field)

5:25pm               Umpires Photo (main entrance of Legacy Dodge Field)

5:40pm                 All Teams, Umpires, Officials down on event level of Legacy Dodge Field

6pm                       Opening Ceremonies at Legacy Dodge Field

6:45pm                 BBQ Dinner Commences in SMS Stadium for Teams

                                (This is complimentary for Players, Coaches, Chef de Mission, Umpires, Official Scorers, and Baseball Canada Representatives)

7:30pm                 Transportation begins back to hotels for teams

8pm                       Pre-Tournament Meetings in SMS Equipment Place Grand Ballrooms

(1 coach and 1 chef de mission must attend per team. Transportation will be provided for everyone back to the hotels after the meetings) For those chef’s offsite a link will be provided to join by Microsoft Teams.

 

OPENING CEREMONIES/WELCOME EVENT 

Opening Ceremonies for Baseball Canada 18U Nationals will take place Wednesday, August 12th at 6pm at Legacy Dodge Field and is included in the purchase of your tournament pass. Participants will have a casual Welcome BBQ that will take place right after opening ceremonies in SMS Equipment Stadium. Start time will be approximately 6:45pm as noted above. This event is complimentary for players, coaches, managers, officials, and Baseball Canada representatives.

All teams are required to wear their uniforms for the Opening Ceremonies. Please come dressed and bring your cleats with you.

 

PRE-TOURNAMENT MEETING

The pre-tournament meeting will take place on August 12th at 8:00pm in the Grand Ballroom at SMS Equipment Place (MacDonald Island Park). Two team representatives are asked to attend (Head Coach & Chef de Mission). Transportation will be provided back to the hotels after this meeting.

 

CLOSING CEREMONIES

The Closing Ceremonies for both championships will take place following the Baseball Canada 18U National Championships Gold Medal Game at Legacy Dodge Field at SMS Equipment Place, MacDonald Island Park.  This will be at approximately 9:00pm on Sunday August 16th. All participating teams (Gold, Silver, Bronze medal winners) are required to wear their uniforms for the Closing Ceremonies.

PRACTICE OPPORTUNITIES

On behalf of the 2026 Host Committee, we will be offering complimentary use of batting cages prior to game/practice time from August 12th to 16th for Baseball Canada 18U National Championship

  • Cages will be available at Legacy Dodge Field and Ross Hennigar for teams.
  • Only turf or running shoes are allowed in the cages. No metal cleats.
  • We suggest teams bring some practice baseballs to utilize in the cages.
  • One side of each cage can be used per team prior to their game time.

In addition, each team will have the opportunity to have one complimentary practice session.

TRANSPORTATION

Local ground transportation is provided by the Host Committee and includes airport pick up/drop off, special event, practice, and game transportation between host hotels and the venues for players, coaches, and chef de missions for those teams that choose to stay at the provided/assigned hotels as noted below. Teams are asked to provide your airport arrival and departure times to Jennifer Warwick as soon as they are confirmed.  A transportation schedule will be shared with each team’s Chef de Mission prior to the championship. A review of each team’s final transportation schedule will be completed for the duration of the tournament on Thursday during the Pre-Tournament meeting. ACCOMMODATIONS – BASEBALL CANADA 18U NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAMS

To make travel planning as smooth as possible for the 2026 Baseball Canada 18U National Championship, we’ve secured dedicated room blocks at two host hotels for participating teams.

Teams will have first choice of rooms based on their preferred hotel request, so we encourage you to book early to secure your ideal option. There are 100 rooms available based on requests submitted to Baseball Canada. This room block is from August 11th - August 17th.

All reservations must be made under the group name:

Once your team has confirmed your hotel, please have your Province / Chef de Mission notify Co-Chair Jennifer Warwick, jennifer.warwick@rrcwb.ca.

This helps us finalize team transportation schedules and ensure everything runs smoothly when you arrive. As a reminder teams are responsible for booking and paying for their own accommodations, and rooming lists will be due to the hotel one week prior to arrival.

MERCHANDISE

There will be an opportunity to purchase Championship branded and Baseball Canada merchandise. Sales will occur throughout the event but will have limited stock.

A group, pre-order form for Championship merchandise will be shared with each team’s Chef de Mission. It is asked that team’s fill out this form and submit it “as a team” and not individually.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation has been arranged for Umpires. Once Umpires have been assigned by Baseball Canada, they are asked to contact the Host Committee’s Director of Umpires directly to discuss transportation details.

The umpires meeting will take place on August 12th at 8:00pm.

 

ACCOMMODATIONS

Umpires have been assigned to The Pomeroy Hotel

 

Umpires have rooms reserved from August 12th to a check-out on August 18th. Accommodations are based on double occupancy and will be paid for by the Host Organizing Committee. Your stay includes a complimentary breakfast. Room lists must be provided ten days in advance to the Host Organizing Committee.

 

Umpires are required to provide a valid non-prepaid credit card at check in to cover any incidentals that may be incurred.
