OTTAWA-Baseball Canada has received notice that the Americas World Junior Qualification Tournament in Cartagena, Colombia has been postponed and will now take place from November 17th -27th.
The decision to postpone this event from its original time of September 23rd-October 2nd is a result of a natural disaster that occurred in the neighbouring town of San Francisco, just outside Cartagena on August 16th. Many homes were damaged, leaving thousands of resident homeless and as such the Mayor of Cartagena felt it necessary to postpone the event. An official request to postpone from the Colombian Baseball Federation, was granted by the Confederation of Pan American Baseball (COPABE).
The originally scheduled Pre-World Qualifier tour in North Carolina from September 13th- 22nd has been cancelled.
The Junior National Team will hold a Pre-World Qualifier camp beginning on November 9th at a site to be determined prior to travelling to Colombia for the qualifier.
The top four countries from Colombia will qualify for the 2012 World Junior Baseball Championship in Seoul, Korea.
