Peewee Atlantic Championship: Bridgewater claims gold

Dartmouth, NS-In the end it was Bridgewater , Nova Scotia coming out on top at the Peewee Atlantic Championship with a 7-1 victory over Dieppe, New Brunswick in the Gold Medal game.

Bridgewater opened the scoring in the third inning when Keith Geston (Bridgewater, NS) hit a RBI single and later came around to score to make the score 2-0.

After Dieppe got one run back in the top of the fourth, Bridgewater added three more runs in the bottom of the frame to take a commanding 5-1 lead.

Jacob Lonar (Coldbrook, NS) threw six complete innings and only gave up one run while Zack Zinck (Blockhouse, NS) threw a scoreless seventh to close-out the game.

In placement games played on Saturday, Charlottetown, PEI defeated Mount Pearl, NL 8-2 in the seventh place game and St. John’s, NL thumped Summerside, PEI, 22-4, in the fifth place game.

The win by Bridgewater wraps up the final Baseball Canada National Championship for the 2011 season. Baseball Canada would like to thank all of those who made these championship events a great success and we look forward to a great championship season in 2012!
