Baseball loses IOC re-instatement vote

OTTAWA – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) held their vote for which two sports would be considered for inclusion in the 2016 Olympic Games and the IOC has selected golf and rugby sevens to be put forth for a vote in October in Copenhagen for an addition to the Olympic Program in 2016.

Baseball Canada President Ray Carter expressed his views of the IOC announcement with the following statement:

“This is not good news for Baseball in Canada. We were looking to continue with the Olympic program, but with this recent announcement from the IOC, we will be looking to other opportunities through the IBAF and Major League Baseball. However, the baseball community can be assured that the development of our game in this country and around the world will continue to grow and flourish.”

Baseball, softball, squash, karate and roller sports were the other five sports up for recommendation.
