Canada to open IBAF 18U World Cup against Japan

OTTAWA- For the second consecutive year, Canada will open the IBAF 18U World Cup against Japan as the tournament schedule was released today by the International Baseball Federation.

The match-up with Japan will take place on August 30th at Taichung Stadium in Taichung, Taiwan at 9am CST (9pm ET on August 29th). The tournament’s opening ceremony will take place later that evening at 6:20pm CST at Intercontinental Stadium.

Twelve teams will be split into two pools (Pool A: Canada, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic, Mexico, Venezuela; Pool B: USA, Italy, Australia, Cuba, South Korea, Colombia) with the First Round consisting of a round-robin format.

Canada’s First Round schedule in Pool A is as follows:

Aug 30 9am CST (9pm ET on 08/29) @ Japan (Taichung Stadium)

Aug 31 12:30pm CST (12:30am ET) vs Chinese Taipei (Intercontinental Stadium)

Sept 1 12 :30pm CST (12 :30am ET)  @ Czech Republic (Dou-Liou Stadium)

Sept 2 6 :30pm CST (6 :30am ET) vs Venezuela (Taichung Stadium)

Sept 3 12 :30pm CST (12 :30am ET) vs Mexico (Taichung Stadium)

The Second Round will begin on September 5th with the top three seeds in each pool crossing over to play each other.

At the end of the Second Round, the top two records will meet for gold, while the third and fourth best records will square-off for bronze.

Gold and bronze medal games are scheduled for September 8th at Intercontinental Stadium with the bronze medal game slated for 12:30pm CST (12:30am ET) and the gold medal match-up following at 6:30 pm CST (6:30am ET).
