Chris Robinson going to the show!

OTTAWA-Baseball Canada would like to send out a hearty congratulation to veteran National Team catcher Chris Robinson (Dorchester, ON) who has been called-up to the big-leagues by the San Diego Padres.

Robinson was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the third round of the 2005 MLB Draft out of the University of Illinois and has spent the last nine seasons in the minor leagues with the Tigers, Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles and San Diego Padres organizations.

As an 18 year-old, Robinson made his National Team debut as a member of the Junior National Team that competed in the 2002 IBAF 18U World Cup in Sherbrooke, QC where Canada finished in fourth place.

In 2006, Robinson made his debut with the Senior National Team and has been part of nearly every National Team since that time including the most recent World Baseball Classic last March where he was Canada’s starting catcher.

The 29 year-old has been part of some of the most memorable wins in Canadian National Team history including the 2008 Olympic Qualifier in Taiwan (he later competed for Canada at the 2008 Beijing Olympics), the 2009 IBAF World Cup where Canada won bronze, the 2011 Pan Am Games gold medal team and the 2012 World Baseball Classic Qualifier where he played a key role in helping Canada qualify for the 2013 WBC.

Robinson began the season with the Baltimore Orioles organization before being dealt to the Padres on June 20th where he was assigned to the Padres Triple-A affiliate in Tucson.

Through 29 games with Tucson, Robinson was hitting .298 with five doubles and 12 RBI.

Robinson becomes the 19th Canadian to appear on a major league roster during the 2013 season.
