OTTAWA- Baseball Canada is pleased to announce that Humboldt Minor Baseball has achieved the required elements of Baseball Canada’s Reaching Baseball Ideals (RBI) Program and is now RBI Approved.
In doing so, Humboldt Minor Baseball becomes the seventh minor baseball association from the province of Saskatchewan and the 37th association in Canada to achieve the designation.
For Humboldt Minor Baseball President, Morris Tarnowski, the idea of becoming RBI Approved came after a conversation with Saskatchewan Baseball’s Nolan Bracken.
“When Nolan outlined the various topics that were essential for the RBI program, I felt that we had (already) accomplished some of these areas like the Rally Cap and My First Pitch programs,” said Tarnowski. “We were also following the pitch count guidelines set up by Saskatchewan Baseball.”
Baseball Canada’s RBI program (Reaching Baseball Ideals) gives associations the opportunity to apply common core criteria (Development programs, Membership with Baseball Canada, Coach Training, Accessibility and Pitching Safety) to ensure that consistent good practice is in place when running a minor baseball organization.
For a smaller organization, Humboldt Minor Baseball traditionally has high registration numbers and already have 130 players registered for 2014. The association offers programs from Rally Cap to Midget baseball.
An area of focus for the organization lies in coach education.
“Humboldt Minor Baseball encourages coaches to attend coaching clinics so they are certified for events like provincial play,” added Tarnowski. “We also encourage our players to attend camps and clinics.
“We chose to become RBI Approved to let our parents, coaches and players fully understand that our goal is to encourage and develop players and coaches in our area.”
