JNT drops twin bill against Lake Sumter

ORLANDO, Florida – The Junior National Team dropped a doubleheader to Lake Sumter Community College by scored of 5-4 and 5-1 at the Fall Instructional League Camp.

In game one, the Canadians took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh when it all fell apart. With one out in the inning and Ryan Johnson (Winnipeg, MB) on the mound, he allowed a walk, then a double by Rafael Diazand a run-scoring single to Bryan Hill to make it 4-2. With two out and runners at second and third he allowed a double by Chase Okey to tie the game. Carlos Labrador then singled home the game winner.

The JNT scored all of its runs in the fourth inning as Nick Mahovlich (Coquitlam, BC) singled with one out.  RyanClarke (Mississauga, ON) followed with a single and Brandon Dailey (Brantford, ON) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Rowan Wick (North Vancouver, BC) lined a ball off the first-baseman’s glove to knock in three runs.  Wick later scored for a 4-1 lead as Justin Atkinson (Surrey, BC) reached on an error.

Tanner Spencer (Craik, SK) got the start on the mound for the Canadians and allowed an unearned run on two hits, four walks with four strikeouts in three innings of work.

Jesen Dygestile-Therrien (Montreal, QC) worked three scoreless innings in relief, allowing only one hit and a walk. He also struck out one Sumter hitter.

In game two, Lake Sumter score in four of the first five innings to take control early.

Steve McKinnon (Duncan, BC) got the start on the mound for game two and allowed one run on two hits in two innings pitched, striking out a pair during his outing.

Evan Rutckyj (Windsor, ON) worked 1 2/3 innings in relief and allowed three unearned runs on three hits, three walks and a hit batsman. He struck out three Lakers hitters.

Iannick Remillard (Valleyfield, QC) allowed an unearned run on two hits and a walk while striking out a pair over 2 1/3 innings of work.

The JNT scored its only run in the fifth inning as Nick Mahovlich doubled and Jonathan Jones(Lorraine, QC) worked a walk. With two out,Cédrick Vallières (Roxton Pond, QC) singled to load the bases.  Cameron Mattice(Mississauga, ON) then walked to force in a run.

Next up for the Junior National Team is a matchup with the Houston Astros on Monday, October 12th at 1 PM at Champion Stadium at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.
