ORLANDO, FL – The Junior National Team had no answer for the Detroit Tigers offence in Spring Training action. The Tigers’ prospects took advantage of their chances while the Canadians only scored a couple of runs as they would fall to the Tigers by a score of 9-2.
The Tigers’ youngsters opened the scoring with a bang on a two-run home run to take a 2-0 lead in the second inning. They would follow that up with a walk, a stolen base and a RBI single to make it 3-0 after two innings.
In the third inning, the Tigers added to their lead without registering a base hit. Two Canadian errors would lead to another run and a 4-0 lead for Detroit.
Two singles and a sacrifice fly would add to another run in the fourth inning for the Tigers, while a double and a single would make it 6-0 Detroit after six innings.
The Tigers’ prospects would finish of their scoring in the eighth inning the same way they started it, scoring three runs two of which came of a home run.
The Canadians made a little noise offensively in the eighth, scoring both their runs in the inning. Brett Lawrie (Langley, BC) continues to tear the cover off the ball, going 2-for-3 in the game. Jean-Christophe Paquin (St-Augustin, QC) was also 2-for-3 in the contest.
