Québec captures their fourth Women’s Championship Gold Medal

OTTAWA – For the first time in four years the Women’s Championship will see a new Gold Medalist as Québec knocked off British Columbia 4-0 in the final game of the tournament at Mainland Field in Halifax, NS.

Québec had everything working for them on this championship game as they score four runs on ten hits behind a complete game shutout by starter Sophy Gagne.

Justine Marine came up clutch for Québec slugging a couple of doubles in three at bats and driving in three of the four Québequois runs.

The BC bats could not drive a run across on this one despite a perfect 2-for-2 effort from Jennifer Gilroy including a walk and double.

Alberta takes home the Bronze

Earlier in the day, Alberta came out on top 5-4, on an epic battle against Nova Scotia in the Bronze Medal game.

Alberta’s victory was powered by Ava Greiner’s 2-for-4 performance at the dish. Greiner would finish the day with 3 RBI’s, driving in the go ahead run for her squad late in the ballgame.

On the other side of the diamond, Barry Sydney’s complete game effort was enough to give Alberta its ninth Bronze Medal at the Women’s Championship.

Nova Scotia missed the podium despite outstanding performance late in the tournament. Two close 5-4 losses over BC and Alberta, in semi-final action and bronze medal game respectively, pushed Nova Scotia fourth overall in the competition.

In placement games, Ontario (1) collects two big wins, one over Ontario (2) 17-2 and Saskatchewan 15-4.
