Here’s a brief recap of how today’s events unfolded.

18U Championship

Saskatchewan 5  Nova Scotia 4

Ben Komonosky (Regina, SK) capped off his two-hit day with the game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth inning to propel his team to victory over Nova Scotia.  Bryce Crosbie (Moose Jaw, SK) snatched up the win on the mound with two perfect innings, while Nova Scotia’s Jaelin Trider (Dartmouth, NS) was fantastic at the plate driving in all four of his team’s runs.

Québec 10  British Columbia 0

Scoreless heading into the fourth inning, the Québec bats would explode for ten runs thanks to each player picking up at least one RBI.  Talk about a team effort.  Jason Tarapasky (Pierrefonds, QC) allowed one hit over four innings to grab the win.

Manitoba 10  Prince Edward Island 0

Leadoff hitter Kyle Jur (West St. Paul, MB) was on fire today, collecting two hits and four RBI while also scoring twice.  Teammate Troy Blad (Steinbach, MB) nearly matched Jur’s output with three RBI of his own.  Pitcher Ryan Saunders (Winnipeg, MB) threw the tournament’s first no-hitter in five innings of work.

Alberta 12  Trois-Riviéres 8

Alberta rallied with eight runs in a three-inning span late in the game to down host Trois-Riviéres 12-8.  Drake Kirkwood (Calgary, AB) had a monster day in the batters’ box, going 4-5 with five RBI and two runs scored, and teammate Matt Lloyd (Okotoks, AB) reached base four times and was credited as the winning pitcher.  Six different Trois-Riviéres players contributed with one RBI each,

New Brunswick 8  Newfoundland and Labrador 5

New Brunswick used a seven-run first inning to quickly go ahead, and would eventually hang on for the 8-5 triumph.  Seven different New Brunswick players drove in runs in the total team effort that helped Adam Kerr (Hanwell, NB) earn the win on the mound.  Keegan Spurell (Torbay, NL) reached base in all four of his plate appearances, which included three hits.

Ontario 8  New Brunswick 2

Vincent Caschera’s (Sarnia, ON) two run double broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning and Matthew Bowden (London, ON) went the distance to help Ontario get past New Brunswick.  Zachary Desa (London, ON) also contributed with two hits and three important RBI.  Nick Leggatt (Chatham, ON) struck out nine in his team’s loss.

21U Championship

Ontario 18  Saskatchewan 3

Ontario’s bats stormed out of the gate and never slowed en route to a dominant win over Saskatchewan.  Every player in the lineup scored at least one run, led by Keifer Quick’s (Leamington, ON) four.  Eric Cunningham (Lasalle, ON) also scored twice and added three hits and three RBI to finish of his day.

British Columbia 4  Québec 0

Even though his offense scored four runs, one was all Matt Trimble (Coquitlam, BC) needed as he went the distance to earn the win and shutout.  Trimble struck out seven batters and allowed only five hits.  Corbin Henderson (Coquitlam, BC) reached based four times and scored two of his team’s four runs.

Manitoba 6  Newfoundland and Labrador 1

Jesse Goertzen (Steinbach, MB) would throw all seven innings in a gutsy effort to help his team pick up the win.  Jamieson Krentz (Steinbach, MB) was leader offensively, picking up three RBI to go along with his two hits.  Dan Connors (Mount Pearl, NL) took the loss on the mound, but managed to pitch a full six innings.

Nova Scotia 5  Prince Edward Island 4

Codey Schrider (Dartmouth, NS) not only had two hits and a RBI at the plate, but he also starred on the mound pitching the entire game to help his team narrowly escape with the one run victory.  Dillon Doucette (Peakes, PE) and Peter MacLeod (Lorne Valley, PE) combined for five of their team’s nine hits in the close loss.

British Columbia 11  Dartmouth 1

British Columbia began and finished the game with the bats on fire to get past host Dartmouth.  BC scored six runs in the first and five in the fifth, led through a full team effort that saw seven different players drive in runs.  Winning pitcher Clayton Franco (Surrey, BC) went all five innings and struck out six.

Saskatchewan 7  New Brunswick 6

Chris Baird’s (Saskatoon, SK) three RBI proved to be essential as his sneak snuck out a 7-6 victory over New Brunswick.  Jordan Spooner (Saskatoon, SK) gave up one run in the seventh, but managed to shut the door to preserve the win and pick up the save.  Second basemen Jarrett James (Fredericton, NB) walked four times.
