2009 National Championships: offence on demand

OTTAWA – The host team is putting on a show thus far during the Midget National Championship in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The unfortunate part for Fredericton is that they’ve come out on the short end in their first three games.

After a 5-4 loss to Manitoba earlier in the day, Fredericton came back this evening for their matchup with Ontario (London). They held a 3-0 lead going into the sixth inning when London would score three in the sixth, then two in the top of the seventh to comeback for a 5-3 win.

Paul Lytwynec (London, ON) went 2-for-4 with an RBI for London, while Corey Wood (Fredericton, NB) went 2-for-3 for Fredericton.

Elsewhere, Chris Untereiner (Regina, SK) and Tanner Forster (Regina, SK) both went deep in an 8-2 Saskatchewan victory over Manitoba. Tyler McWhirter (Regina, SK) threw a complete game for the win, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Also, eight of the nine Nova Scotia hitters registered at least one hit in an 11-1 rout over New Brunswick, led by Kevin Jackson (Dartmouth, NS) who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored.

Finally, Québec moved to 3-0 in the tournament with a 5-0 shutout victory over Ontario (Tecumseh).
