OTTAWA-Baseball Canada would like to recognize Howie Birnie of Leaside, Ontario on receiving the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award.
Mr. Birnie has been a volunteer for over 50 years in the Toronto amateur baseball scene and has spent time as President of Baseball Ontario and as a Baseball Canada Rep at numerous National Championship tournaments.
“On behalf of Baseball Canada I would like to congratulate Howie on this great honour,” said Baseball Canada President Ray Carter. “Howie’s dedication to amateur baseball in Canada and specifically in the Toronto area is something that should be recognized and I’d like to send warm wishes to Howie along with his family and friends.”
In addition to the ceremony this morning at the Ontario Legislature, Mr. Birnie will also be celebrated this evening at Talbot Park in Leaside where he has spent countless hours giving his time to baseball in the area.
Former big-leaguer Dr. Ron Taylor and NHL Hall of Famer Ken Dryden are two of the distinguished guests that will be in attendance to celebrate this evening.
The celebration will be two-fold as Mr. Birnie will be turning 75 years-old on July 17th.
