JNT drops final Fall Camp outing

ORLANDO, Florida – The Junior National Team ended the Fall Instructional League Camp on a sour note as they would lose their final game of the camp by a score of 7-1 against the Atlanta Braves.

The Braves got on the board quickly, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single against Canadian starter Evan Grills (Whitby, ON).

That would be Grills’ only blemish in his two innings of work, allowing one run on two hits with a walk and a hit batsman while striking out three Braves hitters.

Atlanta increased their lead to 4-0 in the third inning.   A one out triple followed by a double to right drove in the first run. With two outs, a double to left brought in the second run and a single to left drove in the third run.

A leadoff walk and a double made it 5-0 for the Braves in the fourth. They added another run in the inning on an RBI single to take a 6-0 lead.

The Braves would score their final run in the fifth when a one out double, followed later by a two out single made it 7-0 for Atlanta.

The JNT got on the board in the top of the sixth when Kellin Deglan (Langley, BC) led off with a triple to deep right and he came in to score on a Justin Atkinson (Surrey, BC) ground out to make it 7-1.

On the mound, Jesen Dygestile-Therrien (Montreal, QC), Steve McKinnon (Duncan, BC) Evan Rutckyj (Windsor, ON) and Tanner Spencer (Craik, SK) each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

The Junior National Team will now make its way back to Canada on Thursday, October 15th. They will reunite again in 2010 for the Spring Training Camp from April 15th-25th in Orlando, Florida at Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex.
