OTTAWA- Brett Lawrie (Langley, BC) is now a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. The former Junior National Team star and also a member of the 2008 Olympic team and the 2009 World Baseball Classic club was dealt by the Milwaukee Brewers to the Jays for RHP Shaun Marcum.

OTTAWA- Wayne Parro (Brooklin, ON) is moving on to a different role within Baseball Canada. Parro will chair the newly formed Baseball Canada Coaching Committee. This will be a new role for Parro within Baseball Canada as he just ended a seven year run as an assistant coach with the Women’s National Team. The current Executive Director of Coaches of Canada feels comfortable knowing that the program is headed in the right direction.

OTTAWA-Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto (Etobicoke, ON) has been named the 2010 National League MVP as voted by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Votto joins Larry Walker (Maple Ridge, BC), who won the National League MVP in 1997 and Justin Morneau (New Westminster, BC), winner of the 2006 American League MVP as the only Canadians to win the prestigious award.
OTTAWA- Nick Weglarz (Stevensville, ON) was named the fifth best prospect in the Cleveland Indians organization by Baseball America. Baseball America annually ranks the top ten prospects of each major league team.
